Founded

2004

History

Started, 1985, as 'Zeulia Family Alliance for Development (ZEFAD )' Self Help Group in Kifamba Sub County, Rakai District in the extended family of James Kimera Ssekiwanuka to respond to the challenges presented by HIV/AIDS.

In 2000 transitioned into a Community Based Organization (CBO) to respond to the broader issues and challenges of HIV/AIDS. Name changed, 2001, to 'CALM Uganda' when other professionals joined the Alliance, and later to the present name to reflect a wider vision and mission.

Registered as a local NGO, 2005, and established offices in Rakai District and later in Kampala and Wakiso Districts.

Aims

Work to pragmatically promote the rights and protection of children and young people in order to meet immediate needs and ensure lasting changes leading to successful and productive lives.

Children First Uganda (CFU) is supportive arm. Plans to set up more field offices in and outside of Uganda.
