History

Set up following a meeting, 17-19 Oct 2007, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain), attended by Directors of the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS) of the region, F-XD3462 - Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), D-XD8572 - African Union (AU), E-XE2429 - AGRHYMET Regional Centre, E-XE1341 - African Centre of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD) and representatives from European meteorological services. Functions as a programme of cooperation carried out through B-XB3556 - World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Original title: Forum of Directors of the West African National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (AFRIMET) -- Forum des Directeurs des Services Météorologiques et Hydrologiques de l'Afrique d'Ouest -- Foro de Directores de los Servicios Meteorológicos e Hidrológicos del Africa del Oeste.

Aims

Facilitate multilateral cooperation in meteorology and hydrology among NMHSs in the West African region in order to build capacity towards operational climate and weather information services, and contribute products and services to sustainable development.
