History

1982, following an economic summit meeting, Versailles (France), of the 'Group of Seven (G-7)', now Group of Eight (G-8), Heads of State and representatives from the European Community (EC). Continuation Agreement signed 1997 and 2007.

Aims

Promote world trade by innovation and adoption of advanced materials through international collaborations that provide the technical basis for harmonization of measurement methods, leading to best practices and standards.

Activities

Works on pre-standards in rapidly developing technical areas; establishes the basis of new standards technical committees; transfers results to standards bodies leading directly to international standards; contributes to development of reference materials; develops test methods and procedures; increases proficiency of laboratories, including industrial laboratories; establishes agreement of nomenclature; generates high quality data via inter-laboratory comparison exercises; delivers precision data statements; provides reliable material properties.
