Legal form initiated Dec 1960. Officially established 17 May 1961, with constituent assembly being held on 17 June 1961.
Aims
Study and develop standards and technical reports in cooperation with appropriate national, European and international organizations to facilitate use of information processing, consumer electronics and telecommunication systems; encourage correct use of standards by influencing the environment in which they are applied; promulgate various standards applicable to functional design and use of information processing and telecommunication systems.
