The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1971, within the framework of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), as NATO Integrated Communications System Management Agency (NICSMA). New Charter and listed name adopted 1986. Agency reorganized in 1992 to react to changed NATO strategy and adjust to changed tasks. Was also referred to as NATO CIS Agency. Ceased to exist, July 1997, when merged with SHAPE Technical Centre (STC) to form NATO Consultation, Command and Control Agency (NC3A).

Aims

Plan, engineer, purchase and assist in the implementation of communications and information systems on behalf of NATO nations.

Activities

Major programmes run by the Agency: Architectural Planning and Design of NATO CIS components to maintain NATO-wide system integrity; Implementation and enhancement of terrestrial NATO-wide communications systems, including Cross Border Connections between national defence networks; Implementation and enhancement of NATO-wide satellite communications; Procurement of terminal equipment, including crypto equipment; Design and Implementation of Information Systems.
