The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History
Feb 2000, under Regulation (EC) No 1628/96 of E-XE3068 - Council of the European Union, as an independent agency of F-XF2147 - European Union (EU), accountable to the European Council and F-XF0667 - European Parliament (EP). Set up following proposal, 4 Jun 1999, Cologne (Germany). Initially for post-war reconstruction in Kosovo. Mandate extended, Dec 2000, to cover the whole of Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro); extended Dec 2001 to cover FYR Macedonia. Agency now operates under Regulations (EC) 2666/2000, 2667/2000 and 2415/2001. Previously also known under the acronym EAR. Terminated 1 Dec 2008.
Aims
Support good governance, institution building and the rule of law; continue supporting the development of a market economy and invest further in critical physical infrastructure and environmental actions; support social development and the strengthening of civil society.

Technical management body. Headquarters in Thessaloniki (Greece); operational centres in Pristina (Kosovo), Belgrade (Serbia), Podgorica (Montenegro) and Skopje (Macedonia).
