History
Established Jan 1967, Grenoble (France), with the signature of an intergovernmental convention between France and the Federal Republic of Germany. The United Kingdom joined as third Associate partner on 1 Jan 1973. Spain acceded to 'Scientific Membership' on 1 Jan 1987, Switzerland became a Scientific Member in May 1988, Austria in Apr 1990, Italy in 1996, Czech Rep in 1999, Sweden in 2005 and Hungary and Belgium in 2006, Denmark and Slovakia in 2009, and India in 2011. Also referred to as Institut Laue - Langevin (ILL). Registered in accordance with French law. Intergovernmental Convention between France, Germany and UK has been extended for another 10 years until 31 Dec 2023.
Aims
Provide scientists with a very high flux of neutrons feeding some 40 state-of-the-art instruments which are constantly being developed and upgraded; make facilities and expertise available to visiting scientists.
