The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

12 Oct 1975, following the creation of an informal group on iron ore, 1968, Delhi (India), at second session of UNCTAD, and ratification of Agreement of Apr 1975 by the minimum number of countries required, a first meeting of ministers having been held Nov 1974, Geneva (Switzerland). Registered in accordance with Swiss law, following agreement with Swiss Federal Council. Statutes registered in 'UNTS 14441'. Ceased to exist.

Aims

Ensure orderly and healthy growth of the export trade in iron ore; secure fair and remunerative returns from its exploitation, processing and marketing; promote closer cooperation among member countries.

Activities

In a purely consultative role, without powers for concerted governmental action such as price-fixing, provides a forum for exchange of information and experience. Secretariat requests, collects, centralizes and processes information, provides this information to member countries, gives advice on request, makes regular reviews of market conditions, and undertakes technical studies on such subjects as: demand and supply position for iron ore; trends in prices; scrap availability; marketing and transportation; impact of technological advances on consumption and processing of iron ore. Special trust fund project on iron ore statistics with UNCTAD.
