12 Oct 1975, following the creation of an informal group on iron ore, 1968, Delhi (India), at second session of UNCTAD, and ratification of Agreement of Apr 1975 by the minimum number of countries required, a first meeting of ministers having been held Nov 1974, Geneva (Switzerland). Registered in accordance with Swiss law, following agreement with Swiss Federal Council. Statutes registered in 'UNTS 14441'. Ceased to exist.
Ensure orderly and healthy growth of the export trade in iron ore; secure fair and remunerative returns from its exploitation, processing and marketing; promote closer cooperation among member countries.
