History

1987, Québec (Canada). Since 1989, part of the regular programme of H-XC3983 - Agence intergouvernementale de La Francophonie. Set up by decision of F-XF1536 - Conférence au sommet des chefs d'Etat et de gouvernement des pays ayant le français en partage (Sommet de la Francophonie), and also referred to as Centre international francophone de formation à distance. As of 2006 "ceased to exist".

Aims

Promote development of distance education in French speaking countries of the south by increasing knowledge, enriching experience and developing resources; develop a network of distance education institutions cooperating in information and in technical and pedagogic resources; provide technical and financial assistance in setting up national distance education programmes; support the setting up and running of national institutes of distance education; provide initial and ongoing training of personnel; promote projects to encourage local production of educational resources; promote the use of new communications technology in a national and regional framework.
