The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History
1968, on ratification of statutes by the governments of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden; amendment concerning admission of Iceland as a member adopted 17 Jan 1977. New Statutes, approved 10 Dec 1979, came into force 1 Jan 1980. Ceased to exist on decision of D-XD4238 - Nordic Council of Ministers (NCM); publishing activity continued by G-XG7800 - Centre for Arctic Medicine, Oulu. Last Council Meeting: 1995, Tromsø (Norway).
Aims
Investigate: human physiological and pathological reactions under arctic or comparable climatic conditions and in sparsely populated Northern areas; human performance in such environments; the epidemiology of diseases peculiar to these areas, problems of hygiene and proposals related to the development of protective measures for living and working in such places.
