Founded Jun 1989, Ljubljana (Yugoslavia), on incentive of F-XE1645 - Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, by the University of Maribor.
Aims
Foster expert work and collaboration in: political, ethnic, cultural and linguistic aspects of European integration; nationalism, ethnic movements, inter-ethnic relations and protection of minorities with emphasis on South East Europe and eastern European neighbourhood; the role of religious communities in enhancing democracy, human rights and religious freedoms, protection of minorities and spreading of reconciliation and cooperation between the nations in South East Europe and elsewhere; regionalism and European integration, international regional organizations, cross-border cooperation (including "Euroregions"), especially in the context of the EU enlargement and the EU neighbourhood policy; common foreign and security policy of the EU and especially the implementation of this policy in relation to the South East Europe and the Eastern neighbourhood region; the status of an individual in international law with emphasis on international procedures for protection of human rights and rights of members of ethnic minorities; the role of the civil society in enhancement of democracy and cooperation of citizens in the processes of decision-making in the countries "in transition".
