History

1984, as Fellowship of European Oncology Nursing Societies, by Rosette Poletti. Originally headquartered in London (UK); relocated to Brussels (Belgium), 1997. Previously also known as European Organization for Cancer Nursing (EOCN). UK Registered Charity: 802484. EU Transparency Register: 43916872639-25.

Aims

Promote and develop the practice of cancer nursing in European countries, thus improving the quality of care that cancer patients receive; develop educational resources for nurses engaged in caring for patients with cancer, promote educational programmes and identify and build on a body of knowledge specific to cancer nursing; encourage development of and participation in collaborative research and the publication of results; encourage exchange programmes; provide a means of communication between oncology nursing groups and individuals engaged in cancer nursing.

Activities

Accredits educational programmes in cancer nursing. Offers grants and awards. Coorganizes: biennial 'European Cancer Congress (ECCO)'. Organizes biennial Spring Convention (alternates with ECCO) during which a separate Nursing Conference is organized. Collaborates with other organizations on the development of educational programmes and in joint conference sessions and on the development of educational materials. Collaborates with the industry.
