History

Founded by representatives of Austria, Brazil, France, Germany FR, Italy and Luxembourg, following a decision taken at a congress, 1952, Venice (Italy). New statutes adopted 16 Oct 1965, Vienna (Austria); entered into force 1 Mar 1966; most recently amended 2012, Washington DC (USA).

Aims

Defend the independence of the judiciary, as an essential requirement of the judicial function and guarantee of human rights and freedom; protect constitutional and moral position of the judiciary; promote exchange of cultural relations; organize and intensify cordial relations among judges of different countries.
