Founded 1975, Strasbourg (France), as a political group of the F-XE8849 - Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). Original title: Socialist Group of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe/ (SOC) and referred to in short as the Socialist Group /in the Council of Europe/ – Groupe socialiste /au Conseil de l'Europe. Subsequently known as: Socialist Group – Groupe socialiste de l'Assemblée parlementaire du Conseil de l'Europe (SOC).
As a political group, represent socialist views in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
