The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

1965 Geneva Switzerland
History
1965, Geneva (Switzerland), as a specialized department of the Secretariat of the B-XB2832 - Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). Reorganized, 1993, to become a programme of IPU and no longer exists in its own right.
Aims
Facilitate the Inter-Parliamentary Union's fulfilment of one of its statutory aims, namely, 'contribute to better knowledge of the working of representative institutions and to strengthening and development of their means of action' by: collecting and disseminating information on the structure and working methods of all national Parliaments, as well as on the status of their members; encouraging the comparative study of Parliaments, particularly their special features and problems, and of practical solutions to the latter; attempting to help Parliaments of developing countries to strengthen their infrastructures.

CIDP is an integral part of the Secretariat of IPU. Activities and their financing included by Inter-Parliamentary Council in the Union's Work Programme and Budget, in the light of recommendations made by Consultative Committee of Experts (currently consisting of 5 members).
