The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1977, in the framework of OECD Development Centre of Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Project suspended, 1996, pending external evaluation.

Aims

Facilitate communication between individuals and organizations interested in economic and social development in Third World and OECD member countries, through collection, collation, dissemination and retrieval of data and information on: development research and training institutions and organizations; ongoing research projects in the field of development; counselling services, within a computerized information retrieval system.

Activities

Coordinating body: Inter-Regional Coordinating Committee of Development Associations (ICCDA). Operates through 5 regional associations of ICCDA: Association of Arab Institutes and Centres for Economic and Social Research (AICARDES); Association of Development Research and Training Institutes of Asia and the Pacific (ADIPA); Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA); European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI); Latin American Social Sciences Council (CLACSO). Designs and develops value-added products and services; develops skills of information specialists through training and technology transfer; assesses information needs, activities and requirements of researchers and other actors; identifies complementary sources of information; developing and implementing use of telecommunications for electronic communication.
