Founded

1994-10

History

Established to implement Resolution S2 of 1st Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe, 1990, Strasbourg (France), and endorsed by 2nd Ministerial Conference, 1993, Helsinki (Finland). Second 5-year phase started on 1 Jan 2000. 3rd 5-year phase started on 1 Jan 2005, which continues implementation of S2 and also contributes to the implementation of Resolution V4 of 4th Ministerial Conference, 2003, Vienna (Austria). Phase IV (2010-2014) introduced small working groups of about 10 experts and larger workshops. Phase V (2015-2019) links the programme to the policy, strengthening communication and producing guidelines.

Aims

Collate, maintain and disseminate reliable information on forest genetic resources in Europe; coordinate and monitor the conservation of forest genetic resources in Europe; develop guidelines and analyses on topics and issues relevant for the use of forest genetic resources in Europe.
