History
6 Jan 1967, as Pontifical Commission: Iustitia et Pax – Commission pontificale: Iustitia et Pax, by Paul VI, as a five-year experimental Commission, in the framework of F-XF8042 - Administrative Hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church; later extended for another five-year period. Granted definitive status with Motu Proprio Justitiam et Pacem, 10 Dec 1976. When Apostolic Constitution Pastor Bonus of 28 Jun 1988 reorganized Roman Curia, Pope John Paul II changed its title to current name and reconfirmed general lines of its work. Ceased to exist, 1 Jan 2017, when merged with U-XF5874 - Pontifical Council 'Cor Unum', U-XF7319 - Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People and U-XF1950 - Pontifical Council for Pastoral Health Care to become Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.
Aims
Express the Holy See's concern for issues of justice and peace, including those related to migration, health, charitable works and the care of creation; promote integral human development in the light of the Gospel and in the tradition of the Church's social teachings.
