Aims

Promote sustainable food and farming systems that are economically viable, socially just and environmentally harmonious with nature through: global development and dissemination of scientific and technical information to facilitate support for and adoption of sustainable agricultural practices and systems among producers, consumers, policy-makers, economic planners and environmental organizations; strengthening and sustaining research and demonstration projects on operating farms; enhancing the work of existing and newly emerging organizations in improving information exchange for farmers seeking specific techniques and systems to reduce significantly and ultimately eliminate dependence on ecologically harmful chemical compounds and conserve non-renewable resources; facilitating exchange of production and marketing information in farmer-usable form, to increase economic viability of sustainable farming systems; promoting information exchange among policy-makers on encouraging development and adoption of sustainable food and fibre production systems; forming a cooperative endeavour to accelerate and amplify education, research and policy activities of many nations so that increasingly the world's food supply will be produced by environmentally-friendly methods safe to consumers and farm workers.
