Founded 1864, as 'Foreningen til Evangeliets Forkyndelse for Skandinaviske Sømaend i fremmede Havne'. 1915, name changed to Norske Sjømannsmisjon. 1990, name changed to Norwegian Seamen's Mission - Norwegian Church Abroad -- Norsk Sjømannsmisjon - Norsk Kirke i Utlandet. 2003, present name adopted.
Serve Norwegians abroad through churches that serve as social and cultural meeting places.
General Assembly (every 3 years); Meeting of Representatives (annual). Churches (30) serving about 900,000 individuals annually. Chaplains (7) cover about 80 countries by visiting Norwegian communities and students and Norwegian oil installations in the North Sea. Main office in Bergen (Norway).
