History

25 July 1970, Kyoto (Japan), as Association of Directors of Christian Institutes for Social Concern in Asia, having formal links with the then 'East Asia Christian Conference (EACC)', currently, since 1973, Christian Conference of Asia (CCA). Present name of the Association adopted 1972.

Aims

Stimulate links and cooperation among members; establish channels of communication by collecting information in relation to lay training, academic work and movements for social concern; share experiments and programmes; organize relations with churches, sister associations and other organizations with similar concerns; offer consultative or advisory service on the formation of new institutes; seek human development and social justice, liberation from poverty and restoration of basic human rights.

Main topics: human rights; indigenous social action in Asia; role of co-workers in the struggle for peace and justice; links with people's movements; peace and disarmament; women and justice; indigenous culture. Organizes: training courses to help staff of various centres; Bible study courses; field trips; consultations; staff exchanges; ecumenical team visits.
