Founded

1965

History

1965, within the framework of A-XA1710 - International Co-operative Alliance (ICA), as ICA Women's Committee, replacing H-XH1712 - International Cooperative Women's Guild (ICWG), set up 1921, Basel (Switzerland). Name changed to: ICA Global Women's Committee, Sep 1995. Present name adopted, Apr 2001. Evolved into an internal ICA thematic committee.

Aims

Promote the interests of women in every aspect of cooperative activity; advise ICA authorities on equality matters and gender balance; develop working relations, including joint programmes, with other ICA bodies; encourage women to participate actively on equal terms with men in the policy-making and management of cooperatives; organize research activities for women cooperators; urge member organizations to include women in educational and training programmes and to design recruitment policies which encourage suitably qualified women to apply for posts at all levels.
