Set up at 1st International Meeting, following discussions, 1978, Brussels. Society formalized 1980, Exeter (UK); formal Executive Committee formed 14 Sep 1982, Rotterdam (Netherlands). Rules of the Society, adopted 14 Sep 1982, at General Meeting, revised: 11 Sep 1984; 18 Sep 1986; 9 Sep 1987; 1 Sep 1988; 20 Sep 1990; 18 Aug 1992. Rules replaced by a Constitution, 27 Aug 1996, when adopted by General Meeting. Constitution revised 31 Dec 2008 and 31 Dec 2012. Modified Oct 2018, and addition of "Statutes of Association" document compliant with Swiss law.
Stimulate research into principles and methodology used in design and analysis of clinical research; increase the relevance of statistical theory to clinical medicine.
