History
1997, Kiev (Ukraine), by E-XE0963 - UNESCO Office in Venice - UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe (BRESCE) in cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Launched 22 Jul 1998 by Ukraine and USA governments. Officially inaugurated 23 March 2000. Also referred to as Chernobyl International Laboratory on Radio-Ecology.
Aims
Open up favourable opportunities for research laboratories and individual specialists to work on environmental conditions existing in the zone affected by the Chernobyl ITNP accident; carry out scientific and technological research in order to contribute to increased understanding of nuclear and radiation safety and thus to prevention of accidents.
