History

1947, Copenhagen (Denmark), as International Committee for Enteric Phage Typing. Present name adopted 1974.

Aims

Secure international standardization of routine phage typing of typhoid and para-typhoid bacilli as employed in epidemiological investigations directed to the control of the enteric fevers; study development of resistance to antimicrobial drugs in strains of Salmonella typhi; study phage typing S Typhimurum and S Enteritidis, using international schemes developed in the UK.
