Established pursuant resolution taken by D-XD0433 - Council of Arab Economic Unity (CAEU). Expanded from 'Arab Maritime Transport Academy, Abou-Keir Region Alexandria (AMTA)', set up Apr 1975, as a specialized agency acting in the framework of the Transport and Communications sector of D-XD2903 - League of Arab States (LAS), which in its turn had been expanded from the Arab Academy for Maritime Transport (AAMT), formed 26 May 1972.
Coordinate member states efforts in order to develop Arab maritime transport; participate in the elaboration of Arab economic common action and economic integration.
