History
24-25 Jan 1988, Ndjamena (Chad), when statutes were adopted by 23rd Session of the Council of Ministers of D-XD4566 - Comité permanent inter-Etats de lutte contre la sécheresse dans le Sahel (CILSS), to work within E-XE6031 - Institut du Sahel (INSAH), taking over from the previous 'Socioeconomic and Demographic Unit (USED)' of that Institute.
Aims
Contribute to a better understanding of the human environment of the Sahel in order to promote appropriate development strategies; stimulate reflection on relations between population and development in the region; contribute to a better understanding among Sahelian decision-makers of these interrelationships so as to encourage incorporation of demographic variables into development plans; enhance scientific and technical potential of regional research institutions by reinforcing their analytical and investigative capacity in the field.
