Founded as International Bowling Federation – Fédération internationale des quilleurs (FIQ), reviving the International Bowling Association (IBA), set up 1926. Statutes adopted 2 Oct 1975, London (UK); valid since 1 Jan 1976; 20 Jul 1995, Reno NV (USA). Rebranded under current title, 2014, on merger with U-XE2227 - World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA), a previously independent discipline within FIQ.
Foster worldwide interest in and development of amateur tenpin bowling and ninepin bowling; promote international friendship among bowlers of different countries through world and zone tournaments and bowling competitions; establish rules for the uniform practice of bowling worldwide; promote the Olympic Movement and ensure that official bowling activities meet the requirements of the Olympic Charter.
