Founded 13 Nov 1969, Geneva (Switzerland), following recommendations of E-XE0409 - Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations (CONGO) and the work of an ad hoc committee of NGO members, as one of 2 separate committees, each referred to as NGO Committee for Disarmament (NGOCD) -- Comité des ONG pour le désarmement, the other, E-XE5920 - NGO Committee on Disarmament, Peace and Security, New York NY, based in New York NY (USA).

Aims

Promote achievement of disarmament under effective international control and support measures which may assist the realization of this aim, especially through mobilization of member organization networks and constituencies which in turn inform public opinion in certain regions; facilitate relations between NGOs interested in disarmament, international security and related problems, and the competent bodies of the United Nations system; provide a forum for the exchange of information concerning UN activities and other actions for disarmament, international security and related problems, with a view to facilitating and stimulating action and cooperation of NGOs in these fields.
