History

Feb 1998, as Pan Arab Free Trade Area (PAFTA), on signature of a treaty by 18 members of League of Arab States (LAS), following several years of negotiation commencing with signature, 1980, of the Charter for Action économique arabe commune (AEAC) to ensure Arab economic integration. Came into existence under listed title, 1 Jan 2005, following Agadir Agreement (2004) establishing a free trade area between Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt, projected to include all LEA members by 2015.

Eliminate trade barriers among members by gradually lowering regional custom duties.
