following a meeting, 12 Dec 1994, Hangzhou (China), where foundation was announced. International legal status acknowledged, 14 Feb 1999. Formally founded 5 Dec 2000, Hangzhou, under the auspices of B-XE3386 - UNIDO and under close cooperation with the Chinese government. Originally referred to as Asia Development and Training Centre for Small Hydro-Power Generation. Pilot activity phase started 2002.
Promote small hydropower (SHP) development globally through the concept of triangular cooperation, which involves technical and economic cooperation among development countries, developed countries and international organizations, so as to supply rural areas in developing countries with environmentally-friendly, affordable and sufficient energy, which will lead to increases in employment opportunities, economic development, improvements in the ecological environment, poverty alleviation and more generally substantial and spiritual improvements in local living standards.
