Nov 1993, Baguio City (Philippines), during meeting of Asian community organizations. Took over activities of Asian Committee for People's Organization (ACPO), founded in 1971 and dissolved in early 1990's.
Introduce community organizations to countries where none as yet exist; train community organizations on long- and short-term basis (one to seven months); organize exposure trips for community organizations and their support groups; arrange workshops in which national groups can exchange tactics and experiences; circulate information; arrange for research and evaluation; work with other Asia-wide bodies to help make people's participation a reality; retain the ecumenical nature of the network and expand it to include Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist members.Available with paid subscription only.
Organizes workshops, consultations and training programmes that train people to organize the poor into mass-based people's organizations that can bring effective pressure to bear on government to help the poor. Programmes: Community Organization Training Programme; Exchange and Exposure Programme; Internship Programme; Community Organizations Internet School; support campaign for current issues in each country (eviction, human rights, globalization).
