History

13 Apr 1950, Cairo (Egypt), in accordance with article 6 of the Joint Defence and Economic Cooperation Treaty between the States of the Arab League, adopted by the Council of the D-XD2903 - League of Arab States (LAS) to implement the provisions of the articles of the Treaty, whereby Arab States agree to consider any attack against one of them an attack against all and undertake not to sign any international agreement that could contradict this Treaty, or, in their relations with other States, to pursue any line of conduct contrary to the aims of this treaty. Also referred to as: Arab Common Defence Council, Arab Defence Council, Joint Defence Council.

Aims

Adopt whatever means deemed necessary - including the use of armed forces - to repel any act of aggression against any member states and help restore peace and security; for this purpose, seek to harmonize the defence plans of member states and realize their cooperation with a view to enhancing their military potentials so that member states, each according to its own resources and needs, may become capable of boosting their individual and collective means of defence.
