The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Aug 1988, Montevideo (Uruguay), when launched by World Federation of United Cities (UTO) at CIUDAGUA America Latina Conference. Operated by United Towns Development Agency (UTDA). Ceased to exist.

Aims

Improve the quality of urban life in Latin America by adopting strategies to rationalize the management of water and sanitation services; foster dialogue between mayors, citizens, service companies, researchers and professionals at local and regional level with a view to progressive establishment of federal networks at sub-continental level.

Activities

Instrumental in setting up Latin American and Caribbean Water Supply and Sewerage Undertakings Association (ALCEAPA) and assists Latin American Network of Research Centers on Urban Services (REDES). Such Latin American networks and their European counterparts use the programme as a framework for developing decentralized cooperation activities, combining training, town-to-town cooperation agreements, technical assistance, seminars. Programme includes pluriannual conferences and related activities. Also instrumental in setting up Andean Confederation of Users' Associations (CAP).
