History
First statutes adopted 1949, Stockholm (Sweden).
Cross-country skiing and rifle shooting (biathlon) included from 1960. Although B-XB0001 - International Biathlon Union (IBU) was set up in 1993, the two sports continued to be united under UIPMB as umbrella organization until 26 Sep 1998, when the decision of IBU, 26 June 1998, to exist autonomously came into effect.

Aims
Govern the core Olympic sport of Modern Pentathlon and other UIPM multi-sports - Tetrathlon, Triathle, Biathle, Laser Run and World Schools Biathlon - which form a developmental pyramid aimed at increasing global participation.
