History

18 Dec 1990, as NGO/UNICEF Coordinating Committee on Activities for Children in Central and Eastern Europe -- Comité ONG/UNICEF de coordination des activités pour l'enfance dans les pays d'Europe centrale et orientale. Subsequently referred to as NGO/UNICEF Coordinating Committee on Activities for Children in Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States -- Comité ONG/UNICEF de coordination des activités pour l'enfance dans les pays d'Europe centrale et orientale et la Communauté des Etats Indépendants. Name changed to NGO/UNICEF Committee for Children in CEE/CIS and the Baltic States -- Comité ONG/UNICEF pour les enfants des pays de l'Europe centrale et orientale, de la Communauté des Etats Indépendants et des Pays Baltes in Jun 1997. Current name adopted Jun 2002. No activities reported since 2007.

Aims

Develop and maintain an NGO network that reaches deeply into each country and that has functioning and active linkages throughout the region as a whole; facilitate cooperation between NGOs and the UNICEF system; promote dialogue between UNICEF and NGOs on issues in programming for children in the region; strengthen capacity, through the provision of training for civil society throughout the region; ensure regular and accessible information flow throughout the region, to and from national NGOs; develop and disseminate tools and methodologies to share knowledge, information and experience; provide a representative to voice the needs and interests of the region in the Global Forum of the NGO Committee on UNICEF; support the aims of the Global Movement for Children; empower children and young people, particularly the most disadvantaged, to advocate for their own rights and participate in decision-making around policy reform.
