Research projects and joint studies focused on such topics as existing information systems and current changes in information strategies; information needs and behaviour patterns exhibited in the search for and retrieval of information; legal and economic aspects of on-line information exchange on national and international levels. Main categories of ECSSID activities: (1) Information provision in the field of social sciences, in particular for Vienna (Austria) Centre research projects; (2) Scientific conferences, brainstorming seminars and comparative studies on theoretical issues of social science information; (3) Mutual assistance to improve the abilities and efficiency of the institutions taking part in ECSSID. Instrumental in setting up: European Information Network on International Relations and Area Studies (EINIRAS).
