History

20 Feb 1989, Barcelona (Spain), by the autonomous government of Catalunya. Originally referred to as Institut Català d'Estudis Mediterranis (ICEM). Jan 2000, reorganized. Ceased to exist when activities taken over by G-XG9415 - Institut Europeu de la Mediterrània (IEMed), 27 Apr 2002.

Aims

Act as a point of reference for promoting dialogue and cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean region, emphasizing: demographic and economic aspects of human movements; sociological and anthropological aspects of lifestyle, including value systems, multiculturalism and the impact of technology; 'prospectives' - possible future scenarios for drawing up medium and long-term strategies; art and culture; cooperation on principle North-South issues from a politico-economic perspective.
