The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

7 Mar 1988, Dominica, as an agency of Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). Ceased to exist, 1 Nov 1997, when merged with 'Agricultural Diversification Unit (ACDU)' to form Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States/Competitive Business Unit (OECS/CBU).

Aims

Develop export markets through a programme of marketing and promotion; increase level of export information throughout the region. Through advice and training: improve production skills; improve packaging and design skills; upgrade management and exporter skills. Through advice and advocacy, create a financial environment more conducive to exports.

Activities

Services: marketing and promotion; trade information; production, design and packaging; export financing; 'on-the-job' and official course training; advocacy on export policy, export incentives and promotion of an attractive enabling business environment. Services are aimed at: products with existing potential for market penetration, good management and sufficient capacity; products that require test marketing and production modification; products not yet in production but in need of market research information to assess feasibility of setting up production units. Work programme for 1998 focuses on: development of trade exports through examination of distribution channels; identification of, and alignment with, key players in target marketing; promotion of mechanisms for facilitating exports; implementing and sustaining assistance in marketing, production, operations and management development and select areas in the services sector; setting up a commercial unit to provide customs information and documentation, invoicing, sales order processing and shipment services. Works closely with OECS Economic Affairs Secretariat and with OECS Agricultural Diversification Coordinating Unit (ADCU), the latter also forming part of OECS/EDADU.
