The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

6-7 Sep 1994, Brussels (Belgium), within E-XE2442 - European Commission (EC). Also referred to as European Science and Technology Forum. Replaced U-XE0003 - Committee for the European Development of Science and Technology; was itself replaced, 1998, by U-XF5895 - European Research Forum (ERF).

Aims

As set out in European Commission decision paper of 16 Mar 1994: help the European Commission to prepare, implement and monitor Community policy in research and technological development; assist the Commission in efforts to promote scientific and technical culture in Europe and to stimulate debate on science and technology at European level.

Structure

Comprises up to 100 senior people chosen from European organizations representing "exact and natural sciences, economics, social sciences and humanities to the extent that they are affected by Community research; technology and industry". Bureau of 20 - one representative of the Commission, 9 representatives of science, technology and industry institutions and 10 elected by and from Assembly. Officers: Chairman; 2 Vice-Chairmen.
