The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

1986, Geneva (Switzerland), during the International Year of Peace. Ceased to exist, 2009.

Aims

Promote new approaches to information and communication on global issues and help disseminate information on the activities of the United Nations and its specialized agencies.

Activities

Deals with questions relating to information methods, including: how to bridge the information gap (the larger part of the world being deprived of access to information); how to increase cooperation among NGOs in the task of sharing information so as to reach the general public more effectively; seeks to develop cooperation with a wide range of institutions in various fields of human endeavour, including education, science, culture, business, communication, the media. Organizes conferences and seminars.
