May 1996, Midrand (South Africa), as a regional chapter of C-XD3944 - World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA). Formally inaugurated under current title, May 1997, Accra (Ghana), during conference sponsored by B-XE3386 - UNIDO, by IPAs from 39 African countries.
Promote and develop understanding, cooperation and exchange of experience among IPAs in Africa; strengthen their information systems and facilitate access to technical and funding assistance and to training; assist IPAs in advising their respective governments on appropriate investment promotion policy and strategy; act as a platform for African IPAs in international organizations.
Executive Committee, comprising President, Vice-President and 5 further members. Secretariat temporarily based in Accra (Ghana).
