Created by the International Literacy Association's U-XM7344 - International Development in Europe Committee (IDEC), which merged with FELA, Jan 2018.

Contribute to improvements in literacy at all levels in member countries; promote and develop empirical and theoretical research in Europe on the learning and teaching of literacy; develop education policies and contribute to the implementation of European recommendations concerning literacy and its development; promote the exchange and cooperation between member organizations and other organizations worldwide; raise awareness of the importance of literacy.
