Proposed 1984, at first Meeting of E-XE1033 - Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of C-XC4129 - Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Standardization Experts Group for Islamic States (SEG) et up 1985. SMIIC Statutes approved at 14th COMCEC Meeting, 1998. Statutes submitted for signature, Jul 1999, Istanbul (Turkey), at 15th COMCEC Meeting. Statutes entered into force May 2010. Institute established Aug 2010, as an affiliate organ of OIC.
Develop harmonized standards and other relevant specific standards through voluntary standardization process to expedite exchange of goods and services among member bodies/states.
