History

Established following signature of Partnership Agreement between seven regional standards bodies: ARIB (Japan), ATIS (Americas), CCSA (China), ETSI (Europe), TIA (Americas) and TTA (S. Korea).

First Technical Plenary Meeting in Nice (France), Sept 2012.

First Interoperability Test event and ratification in Release 1 of oneM2M standard, 2015.

Release 2 of the standard ratified in 2016 and followed by enhancements in the form of Release 2A early in 2018.

Release 3 completed in 2019.

Initiative on the role of Internet of Things (IoT) launched in 2021.

Aims

Develop Internet of Things (IoT) standards in order to enable interoperable, secure, and simple-to-deploy services for the IoT ecosystem; develop technical specifications for a common service layer that can be readily embedded within various hardware and software, and relied upon to connect the myriad of devices in the field with IoT application servers worldwide; attract and actively involve organizations from related business domains such as: telematics and intelligent transportation, healthcare, utilities, industrial automation, smart homes, smart cities, public safety and services, retail, agriculture etc.; ensure the global functionality of IoT systems and prevents the duplication of standardization effort by bringing together more than 200 member organizations from many diverse business domains.
