Established 22 June-5 Jul 2011, Paris (France), at 26th session of E-XE1118 - Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC). First session held May 2012, Nairobi (Kenya), when it officially replaced H-XE5064 - IOC Regional Committee for the Western Indian Ocean (IOCWIO) and H-XE1176 - IOC Regional Committee for the Central Eastern Atlantic (IOCEA).
Promote regional and international cooperation, and the development and coordination of the Commission's marine scientific and research programmes, ocean services, ocean observing systems, capacity development and related activities in the region by taking account of the specific interests and priorities of Member States from Africa.
