Follow the progress of knowledge through impartiality and cooperation in a permanent forum of researchers, highly qualified educators and decision-makers focusing attention on and discussing problems which may arise for mankind from scientific development and its applications; promote general awareness of questions facing society and each of its individual members by confronting and comparing potential benefits and risks resulting from such development and making such knowledge available in a manner comprehensible to the public at large; alert decision-makers to positive and negative effects that might involve man's future; stimulate reflection on the future of man and of the planet, and on urgent measures necessary for safeguarding that future; encourage adaptation to the mutations which humanity is undergoing.
