History

1954, as a joint subsidiary body of E-XE3248 - UNECE Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry (COFFI) within E-XE4176 - United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), of E-XE6120 - European Forestry Commission (EFC) within B-XB0971 - FAO and of the Industrial Activities Branch within B-XB2183 - ILO. Ceased to exist.

Aims

Serve as a forum for exchange of information and experience among the countries of Europe and North America on forest working techniques and training of forestry workers; focus on sustainable development of the forest sector and the follow up to UN Conference on Environmental and Development (UNCED) and to the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe; recognizing the essential role of training and extension activities, pay special attention to needs of countries in transition and to Southern and Mediterranean countries; aiming at practitioners and technology transfer, concentrate on the interface of policy, science and practice.

Regular Session (every 2 years), hosted by a member country. Steering Committee (meets annually), consisting of Chairperson, 2 Vice-Chairpersons, past Chairperson and 5 Coordinators (including one Coordinator for each work area and one responsible for work concerning countries in transition).
