1921, Lucerne (Switzerland), as International Federation of Christian Trade Unions of Railway, Tramway and Other Transport Workers -- Fédération internationale des syndicats chrétiens du personnel des chemins de fer, tramways et autres moyens de transport. Name changed, 1955, to International Federation of Christian Trade Unions of Transport Workers -- Fédération internationale des syndicats chrétiens du personnel des transports. Present name adopted 1970. Current Statutes adopted 13 Mar 1963, Brussels (Belgium); amended: 27-29 May 1964, Ostend (Belgium); 27-29 May 1970, Vienna (Austria); 29-30 Nov and 1-2 Dec 1976, Antwerp (Belgium); 29 Jun 1978, Brussels; 29 Sep-3 Oct 1986, Houffalize (Belgium). WCL merged with H-XA1667 - International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) to form A-XM2085 - International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), Nov 2006. Ceased to exist, prior to 2014.
Aims
Defend at international and regional levels the interests of affiliated organizations and their members; provide moral support and material aid to affiliated organizations by ensuring permanent cooperation among them.

Congress (every 4 years) comprises Union delegates in numbers proportional to Union membership. World Board, composed of representatives from the different continents. Executive Board, consisting of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary General. Regional organizations (3): H-XD9317 - Asian Trade Federation of Transport Workers, Dhaka (ATF-TW); H-XD8959 - Confederación Latinoamericana de Trabajadores del Transporte y las Comunicaciones (CLTTC); H-XD8758 - Pan African Federation of Transport Workers. Technical Sections (4): Aviation; Rail; Waterways; Road Transport. Secretariat in Brussels (Belgium), headed by Executive Secretary. Membership open; meetings closed.
