The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1959, by Directors General of four Nordic broadcasting organizations (Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden). Icelandic television became a member upon its establishment in 1966. Secretariat set up in 1970, changes site every 5th year.

Aims

Encourage Nordic cooperation by exchange of programmes and co-productions; facilitate reception of Finnish language programmes in Sweden and Swedish language programmes in Finland.

Activities

Since 1959, regular meetings of television programme editors (twice a year); divisional meetings to prepare programme collaboration details. Heads of various television output departments meet once or twice a year. Collaboration includes programme acquisition and sales. Special fund of about Swedish Kr 60 million a year is levied on cable distribution of neighbouring countries' television for the support of Nordic projects, principally co-productions. Technical Office (formed 1962) to direct broadcasts. 'Nordic Screening', annually organized by one of the member organizations, in collaboration with a number of other Nordic organizations.
